How to size hydraulic breaker
When sizing the breaker to the machine, two key points should be given careful consideration: l Machine operating weight l Hydraulic system capabilities With the correct carrier weight, RockAge offers hydraulic breakers that are designed to break any material that the machine can handle. Sizing the breaker by carrier hydraulics gives the operator a carrier/breaker combination designed to optimize the system efficiency, thereby reducing heat generation and eliminating power loss. The following steps will result in a well-matched installation. This manual will not cover all types of applications, so for assistance in any unusual situations please contact your RockAgerepresentative. Based on Carrier Weight By using the Carrier Sizing Chart below, you can narrow your hammer choice. Normally breaker production rate is the most crucial factor when trying to choose a breaker size. It is of great benefit to do some research and understand your hydraulic system capabilities and the material size and hardness before determining an expected production rate. This rate will also be affected by breaking conditions and the operator. Based on the Type of Work The Production Rate is the next important factor to consider in sizing the breaker. Most situations call for the largest breaker that your carrier could handle. The largest breaker is therefore the one to choose. The lifting capacity of your machine is then the limiting factor. The carrier must be able to safely handle the breaker at any distance out from the machine where you might be working. Small Breakers Smaller sized breakers up to 1,000 ft·lb class (1350 joule) are typically used in concrete and other light duty work. Medium Breakers Medium sized breakers 1,500-4,000 ft·lb class (2000-5400 joule) are used in both concrete and rock applications with limitations on the size and amount of material to be broken. Large Breakers Larger breakers greater than the 4,000 ft·lb class (5400 joule) are typically used in hard rock, high production applications. Breaking Oversize When breaking oversize material, the breaker is expected to break the material down quickly into multiple pieces. This is optimum production. If the operator has to re-position the breaker towards the edge of the rock and gradually downsize the material, the production rate slows down. To assess which breaker will effectively handle this application, the size and hardness of the material must be known. For example, if a 4 cubic yard piece of hard rock (20,000 psi or greater) needs to be broken in half, a 7,500 ft·lb or larger breaker is required. If a 2 cubic yard piece of limestone (20,000 psi or less) needs to be broken in half, a 3,000-5,000 ft·lb breaker is required. Trenching When trenching, the breaker is expected to fracture a solid mass of rock into manageable pieces. The size of the material could be hundreds of cubic yards, and the energy will be quickly absorbed. This is why it is recommended to work from a bench so the rock has somewhere to break out. When trenching in limestone or medium hard rock, use a 3,000 -5,000 ft·lb breaker. When working in hard material use a 7,500 -10,000 ft·lb breaker. Breaking Concrete When breaking Concrete, the breaker is expected to penetrate the material, allowing it to crack and shake loose from the reinforcing steel. High frequency breakers tend to provide better performance in this application. It is not the energy per blow, but the fast blow rate that destroys the concrete`s structural integrity. On concrete walls, footings and floors use a 750-1,500 ft·lb breaker. With larger projects consisting of large footings greater than 4 cubic yards, use a 2,000-5,000 ft·lb breaker. The high production demand of bridge and building demolition requires a 7,500-10,000 ft·lb breaker.

How the Hydraulic Breaker Tool Breaks Rock
The following paragraphs describe what happens to break rock when the piston strikes the tool. (A)Contact-Initial Compression Stress Wave When the piston (1) strikes the top of the tool (2), it sends a compressive stress wave (3) down to the working end of the tool. If the tool is touching a rock, this energy/force (compressive stress wave) travels out the tool directly into the rock (4), fracturing it. (B) Recoil-Reflected Stress Wave Immediately following the initial compressive stress wave, a reflected stress wave is formed (5), which travels back up the tool, `bouncing` the piston up off the top of the tool. This cycle of compressive and tensile stresses flowing up and down the tool is repeated with each piston blow (E&F). (C) Bending Anything interfering with the strength of the compressive stress waves (7) during operation such as blank-firing (free-running) or prying with the tool, can lower breaker performance and cause tool fatigue. The breaker must be at a 90° angle to the face of the rock. (D)Blank-firing Blank-firing the breaker without the tool pressing on a rock causes the energy that normally travels out the tool into the rock (8), to impact the retainer pins (9) and front head causing excess stress to these components.

How to use hydraulic breaker
Hydraulic breaker is a common construction machinery equipment, mainly used to break or dismantle buildings, rocks, concrete and other hard materials. It produces high frequency impact force through the high pressure liquid force provided by the hydraulic system, so as to achieve the effect of crushing. The steps of using the hydraulic crushing hammer are as follows: 1. Preparation: Confirm that the hydraulic crushing hammer used is matched with the equipment, and ensure the normal work of the hydraulic system. Check the oil level and quality of hydraulic oil to ensure the normal operation of hydraulic system. 2. Install the hydraulic crushing hammer: Install the hydraulic crushing hammer on the equipment that needs to be removed or broken, ensure that the installation is firm, and the hydraulic pipeline is correctly connected to the hydraulic system. 3. Adjust the working parameters: according to the specific needs, adjust the working parameters of the hydraulic crushing hammer, such as impact frequency, impact force, etc. This can usually be achieved by adjusting the flow and pressure of the hydraulic system. 4. Start to work: Start the hydraulic system to make the hydraulic crushing hammer start to work. The hammer head of the crushing hammer is aimed at the area that needs to be broken, and the high pressure liquid force provided by the hydraulic system makes the hammer head produce high frequency impact force, thereby crushing or removing the hard material. 5. Pay attention to safety: When using hydraulic crushing hammer, you need to pay attention to safety matters. Ensure that the work area is free of personnel or other obstacles to avoid accidental injury. At the same time, regularly check the working status of the hydraulic system and hydraulic crushing hammer, and timely maintenance and maintenance. The use of hydraulic crushing hammers requires professional training and operation to ensure safe and efficient work. Before use, it is recommended to read the manual of the hydraulic crushing hammer in detail, and follow the relevant operating procedures and safety regulations.

Optimal Operating Tips For Hydraulic Breaker
Positioning The Hydraulic Hammer It`s important to properly position so that it`s perpendicular to the material and to follow this rule when using the hydraulic hammer/hydraulic breaker so that it can correctly test the hardness of the material. If the hydraulic hammer/hydraulic breaker is improperly aligned, it could respond as though it was working in light material and remain in a high frequency, low impact mode. When it is properly aligned, it selects the best frequency impact combination for maximum performance with that material at that particular time. Installing The Hydraulic Hammer During installation, it is recommended that the hydraulic hammer runs in a vertical position at about 250-300 blows per minute for one hour. All hydraulic hammers must have sufficient pressure against the tool to allow the transmission of energy or the shock wave to flow through the tool to the material being broken. As the tool moves through the material, the applied pressure is continuously adjusted by using a combination of the boom, dipper and attachment control so that the hydraulic hammer follows the tool. If the applied pressure is insufficient, the tool will dance around on the material rather than sending energy into the rock. When this happens, an impact created by the piston is not transmitted to the rock as a shock wave but is absorbed by the hydraulic hammer and excavator causing abnormal structural fatigue. Applied pressure should not lift the carrier high off the ground. As the hydraulic hammer breaks through the material, the excavator will drop suddenly and harmful shock loads will be transmitted to the tool, power cell, Operation of Hydro Ram Hydraulic Hammers and excavator. If the hydraulic hammer is too heavy for the excavator, the resulting damage will be worse. Things To Avoid With A Hydraulic Hammer Avoid Blank Fire Operations at All Times. If this happens, the piston will strike the tool shank with full impact, forcing the tool against the retainers and causing premature wear and failure to the tool, tool retainers, piston, chuck housing, tension bolts and the hydraulic hammer itself. And since there is no material to absorb the energy, the shock waves will bounce back up the tool, meeting other waves coming down the tool in violent collisions. These collisions create a disorganized mass of energy, causing extensive wear and tear to the tool and other hydraulic hammer components. Never use a hydraulic hammer for lifting or prying something, not only this is dangerous, but also it can cause damage to the hydraulic hammer, tool, and bushings. It also causes damage to other hydraulic hammer components as well as reducing productivity. Prying inhibits of the shock wave through the tool and creates heat buildup in the bushing area. In Cold Weather, always Warm Your Equipment Up Properly Before Operating After the carrier is warmed up, suspend the hydraulic hammer in the air (with the tool extended) to activate the automatic stop. Activate the control to circulate the oil and warm the hydraulic hammer. Warm the tool bit by operating at slow speeds for five to ten minutes. Never Let the hydraulic hammer Strike On the same spot for more than 30 seconds. Even 30 seconds can be too long for large hydraulic Hammers. Working in one spot too long causes heat buildup in the tool, resulting in loss of tool strength and wear resistance.

How to choose a hydraulic hammer
1) Introduction All hydraulic breaker could be roughly divided into three types – Side type, top type and box type. They shape and function similarly, so how to choose the most appropriate type to enhance your work efficiency? 2) Different Types (1)Side Type It`s the most common type of our hydraulic hammer. It`s with better flexibility for accomplishing different projects such as road demolition. Moreover, its lower installation point allows higher lifting. (2)Top Type Firstly, it reaches rock or concrete vertically which helps breaking quarry materials. Secondly, the design provides wider working space. (3)Box (Silent) Type Box type, aka silent type, won`t make much noise during works. Therefore, for certain situation that requires silence, box type breaker will be a great assistance. 3) How to Choose Let`s start with a simple question – What do you value most? (1)Price If under a limited budget, we recommend side type for its cost-efficient price and adequate function. (2)Effect In this case, top type and box type will do. As for the specific choice, it depends on two factors – budget and working environment. (3)Quietness Based on the work of breaking concrete (in cities, usually), quietness is often required. Under this circumstance, we recommend box type with its particular design for lowering noises.

Is it necessary to install the oil return filter element for the breaker? HammerIt is necessary to change the engine oil regularly. In order to make the engine oil better and the normal operation of the auxiliary equipment, it is very important to clean the oil return filter element regularly. The main purpose is to prevent the oil from deteriorating from impurities, which will affect the use of the equipment. Next, let's understand Next, why should the oil return filter be installed for the breaker: For the breaker with the hydraulic system as the main power structure, the hydraulic system is distributed throughout the excavator, which includes hydraulic oil tanks, main pumps, control valves, various pipelines, oil cylinders that perform various actions, motors and other components. These hydraulic components They are all finely processed, and they have higher requirements for the maintenance of the hydraulic system. Cleaning is critical when the hydraulic oil enters the hydraulic system. The low-quality hydraulic oil filter has poor filtering effect and cannot effectively prevent dirt and other impurities from entering the system. If tiny particles enter the hydraulic system, they will scratch the pump. Sticking the valve and blocking the oil port will cause machine failure. The hydraulic oil filter element is mainly used to remove the working medium and solid particles in the entire hydraulic system of the equipment, which can not only effectively control the pollution degree of the working medium of our equipment, but also protect the safe operation of the machine and extend the life of the equipment to a certain extent. of service life. Hydraulic breaker hammer manufacturers add the upper return oil filter element on the basis of the original filter device, which can protect our breaking hammer equipment and make it run better. It is necessary to pay attention to these things in order to increase the strike force of largehydraulic breaker
It is necessary to pay attention to these things in order to increase the strike force of large breakers The main power source is the pressure oil given by the pump station of the excavator or loader, which can better remove the floating objects and soil in the rock gaps during the excavation of the engineering foundation. Many users want to increase the impact of the hydraulic breaker, so in this What should we pay attention to in the process? 1. Preparatory work for crushing When the high-pressure or low-pressure hose of the breaker is loose, we should stop using it, and the relevant staff must carry out inspection and maintenance immediately. At the same time, check whether there is oil leakage in other places. The relevant staff must strictly manage anytime and anywhere Pay attention to the condition of the hit point. 2, Prevent the large smashing hammer from hitting aimlessly. When the rock or target is broken, please temporarily stop the knocking action of the breaker. Continuous impact without purpose will only loosen and destroy the front fuselage and fuselage screws, and even destroy construction machinery and equipment. 3. Do not use the breaker to push heavy objects or large stones. When carrying out work, it is impossible to use the guard plate as a tool to push heavy objects, which will cause breakage of the guard plate screws and drill pipes, damage the breaker, and even the main reason for the breakage of the boom. 4. Pay attention to the operating direction of the large breaker When working, we should confirm that the direction of the drill pipe hitting point is perpendicular to the surface of the broken object, and keep it as long as possible. It may be inclined to the surface of the broken object, and the hammer drill pipe may slip from the surface , In such a case, the drill pipe will be destroyed and the piston will be affected. When crushing, please choose a suitable hitting point as soon as possible. After confirming that the drill pipe is indeed recovered, strike again. Troubleshooting Issues With Hydraulic Breakers
Troubleshooting Issues With Hydraulic Hammers It doesn`t matter whether you are excavating for a foundation or demolishing a structure, your hydraulic hammer needs to function correctly. If your hammer fails to work, your project will undoubtedly be halted. Not only is it a productivity issue, but it can be a safety hazard as well. We have created a systematic approach to the most common hydraulic hammer problems for all our customers. Here, we have the list of things to look for as an operator or owner to avoid major hydraulic breaker repairs: Make Sure Shutoff Valves are Open & Quick Fluid Couplers are Fully Engaged: The most common calls we get are for hydraulic breakers that won`t cycle. Very frequently, the stoppage of the hammer occurred because one of the shutoff valves were closed or a fluid coupler was not fully engaged. In addition to not cycling, a closed return valve can cause heat and backpressure issues that will overheat the hoeram seals and cause leaks. Before running a hydraulic breaker, always make sure the shutoff valves on the excavator are fully open, and all quick fluid couplers fully engaged. Low Nitrogen in Accumulator or Backhead Every hydraulic hammer uses nitrogen in a rechargeable chamber which is critical to the breaker`s performance. Steady gas pressure in the accumulator absorbs spikes from the system and makes power in a backhead chamber. Hydraulic hammer supply hoses that bounce or hop around excessively are common indicators that the nitrogen chamber needs to be recharged. This puts the hammer at risk, lowers impact power and causes hammer supply hoses and tube connections to loosen and leak. If you see the lines moving excessively and/or notice reduced impact power, call to have your hydraulic breaker recharged, which can often be done in a few hours. Broken Tie Bolts or Tie Rods Your hydraulic hammer has four tie bolts, also known as side bolts, that hold the hydraulic breaker together. These can often be seen by looking at top of the breaker just below the top bracket. The operator should get a look at these daily to see if the top nut is missing or if threads can be seen under the head of the nut. If tie rods or side bolts are loose or broken, the hydraulic breaker`s major components can shift, with the misalignment frequently causing it to leak and do internal damage. Your hydraulic hammer should not be operated with a broken bolt and if it is caught early, you can avoid a complete teardown and damage to the hammer internals. Excessive Lower Bushing Clearance Excessive lower bushing clearance is the leading cause of piston and cylinder damage in hydraulic breakers. The lower bushing in your hydraulic hammer keeps the tool aligned with the strike piston and cylinder. If there is too much clearance, the hammer seals and hydraulic oil cannot act as buffers, resulting in external leaks and excessive piston to cylinder contact that scuffs and scratches critical sealing surfaces. If these scuffs and scratches to the piston and cylinder of your hoeram cannot be polished out, a replacement can cost thousands. To avoid this costly repair, here are a few tips: Check the clearance in your hydraulic breaker between the demolition chisel and lower bushing daily to ensure that it is within the manufacturer`s specifications. Make sure that your hydraulic hammer continually has a thick film of chisel paste or hammer lubricant between the lower bushing and the demolition tool. CAUTION: Do not use chassis/bearing grease in a hydraulic hammer! Chassis/bearing grease will melt and fail to protect against the extreme heat, metal to metal scuffing and shock loads endured by a hydraulic hammer. Use only Gorilla Goo ™Chisel Paste, hydraulic breaker chisel paste, hammer grease or hammer lubricant.

How to Choose the Demolition Bit You Need If you`re unsure which demolition bit you need for your hydraulic hammer, the following nine demolition bits are most common for any ground-engaging demolition needs: wide chisels, flat chisels, blunt tools, percussion busters, moil points, moil points with dust groove, ramming tools, asphalt cutters, and tamping plates. Read on to learn what each demolition bit is, what it is used for, and how to choose the demolition bit you need. Rockage Hydraulic Breaker Tools Wide chisel: Wide chisels are generally used with additional cutting. You can break up blacktop in most road construction work, shake out the foundry ladles, and use it to demolish concrete/reinforced concrete. Flat chisel: Flat chisels are also used for additional cutting action, like wide chisels. They are good to draw pits in rocky subsoil and to separate rock slabs. Blunt tool: Use a blunt tool when you need to crush big rock pieces in quarries or playground compression. Percussion buster: Percussion busters are good for any demolition work involving laying brick, concrete, and/or really tough rough. Additionally, if you have the pyramid tip, use a percussion buster for special demolition work with high cracking action. Moil point: Moil points are generally used for any demolition work and in quarries. They can be used for a variety of things, like to break up slag in steel mills and demolish foundations. Additionally, they can be used in mining for roadway driftage and roadway shots. Moil point with dust groove: The moil points with dust grooves work identically to regular moil points, but can be used as an alternative if you are doing very dusty work. Ramming tool: Ramming tools are a great demolition bit. Their principal use is to beat in poles and pipes. Asphalt cutter: Asphalt cutters are generally used when additional cutting action is needed, specifically if you need to cut asphalt or other soft material. Tamping plate: Tamping plates` main use is to compress the ground and/or gravel. Precautions for Working on Hydraulic Systems .
▲WARNING ! Risk of personal injury! Wear safety glasses and use protective gloves. Relieve all trapped pressure before performing any service to the hydraulic system. Pressure can be maintained in the hydraulic circuits long after the power source and pump have been shut down. l Relieve all pressure before disconnecting hoses or tubes. l Tighten all connections before applying pressure. It is important that each person who comes in contact with the machine be alert to any faults. Follow these basic precautions: l Never adjust a pressure relief valve or other pressure-limiting device to a higher pressure than specified. l Check to make sure hydraulic hoses are not worn or damaged, and are routed to avoid chafing. l Replace any hydraulic hose immediately that shows signs of swelling, wear, leaks or damage before it bursts. l Hydraulic fluid escaping under pressure can penetrate the skin causing serious injury. Do not use your hand to check for hydraulic oil leaks. Use a piece of cardboard. If skin penetration occurs, seek medical attention immediately. Relieve all pressure before disconnecting hoses. l Do not bend or strike high-pressure lines, tubes or hoses, or reinstall them in a bent or damaged condition.

Practice Safe Maintenance For Hydraulic Breaker
l Only trained mechanics should repair or disassemble the hydraulic breaker. Be sure you understand a service procedure before beginning any work; if you are uncertain, contact your RockAge representative. l Avoid unauthorized machine modifications – never substitute alternate parts not intended for the application. This could create hazardous situations or machine failure. RockAge Engineering must approve all machine modifications; they can affect product reliability and machine stability. l Before performing any work on the machine, attach a DO NOT OPERATE or similar tag in the operator`s tag in the operator`s cab to alert others of service work being performed. Remove engine key and master key switch. Unexpected machine movement can cause serious injury. l The cushion chamber (back head) is charged with nitrogen (N2)-a non-explosive inert gas. Only use N2 when refilling it. Charging it with any other gas could trigger an explosion and lead to serious or possibly fatal injuries. l Relieve all gas pressure in the cushion chamber before beginning disassembly procedures to avoid the potential for accidents or injury. It remains under pressure even after the hydraulic system is depressurized. Refer to the Maintenance section of the manual. l Stay clear of the tool when charging the breaker cushion chamber. Gas pressure may cause unexpected piston movement and force the tool to jump against the tool retainer pins. l Use only lifting devices with sufficient capacity to safely support the expected weight you are lifting. l All lifting devices (straps, slings, chains, ratchet blocks, etc.) must comply with applicable local regulations and certifications. RockAge cannot accept responsibility for the use of sub- standard equipment and work practices. l When lifting or supporting the breaker or its parts, use equipment with a sufficient lifting capacity. l Use the lifting eyes or lifting points that are located on certain breaker components. l Do not work under a hanging or suspended load! l If a jack is used, the floor or ground must be flat and of sufficient strength to support the expected load.

What is a Post Driver?
What is a Hydraulic Post Driver? B. Turner Last Modified Date: February 22, 2023 A post driver is a device used to set poles or posts into the ground. The post driver applies force to the top of a fence or sign post, which drives it into the earth without the need for digging. While traditional post setting requires the use of a heavy hammer and plenty of hard labor, post drivers require very little manual labor. These machines simply hammer the post from the top, using multiple hits based on terrain and post dimensions. Different types of post drivers can be used to set everything from small fence posts on a farm to large municipal rail or sign supports. Buyers can choose between hydraulic and pneumatic post driver models. Hydraulic models rely on a fuel-powered engine, and generate driving force using hydraulic fluid. Pneumatic, or air-powered units rely on compressed air cartridges to drive the post into the ground. Both may be programmed to hammer the post until it reaches a specific depth, or manually operated for easy adjustment. Buyers must consider a number of factors when deciding between these two types of post drivers, including things like terrain, post size, and desired depth. Augers may be used for boring into the ground to create holes for fence posts. Augers may be used for boring into the ground to create holes for fence posts. Smaller post drivers or those used in rough terrain may be used in conjunction with an auger. More powerful post drivers are used alone to drive the post without the use of an auger or other digging device. Both the auger and the post driver may be mounted on a tractor or excavating machine. Depending on the model, the device can be mounted on the front, back, or even the side of the tractor. Smaller post drivers are operated by hand, with either one or two people operating the device. Post drivers offer a number of advantages over digging and setting posts by hand. They allow installers to quickly and efficiently place posts on large projects, and make it easy to install posts in rough terrain or hard soil. A hydraulic or pneumatic post driver also makes it easier to set posts so they are straight and level, rather than trying to level the posts by eye. For smaller projects, manual methods of post setting are often more effective than using a hydraulic or air-powered post driver. Hand digging allows for greater precision, and may be safer in areas with underground lines or pipes. Manual post setting also costs less than using machine-powered methods, and allows for greater access and control in small areas.
